Wondering What To Do After HIGH SCHOOL?

2

Are you wondering what to do after high school? What to major in? Are you having difficulties deciding or do you even have a clue? I am here to tell you that it’s OK. The majority of us don’t have a clue. You might feel the urge to try something different. It is very common for seniors to transition from high school straight to college but, do you really want to be just like everyone else?

Have you ever considered a non-traditional post-graduation path? Research has shown that students who take a gap year after high school has a better sense of what they want to do in life.

Let’s look at some things to do if you are not sure about the future.

  1. Go Abroad

Travelling is a wonderful way to discover the world, learn a new language and experience a new culture. It is a great way to find your passion, learn so much about yourself and what you want in life. Travelling will give you the opportunity to see the world you have spent so much time learning about in school. Instead of reading about Paris in a textbook, why not go see it for yourself? And if you do decide to travel, check out this wonderful program at https://castleinterprogram.com. “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” ~ Marcel Proust

  • Save Money

College can get very expensive. Getting a job and saving before going to  college is not a bad idea. Look around and see if any local shops are hiring. If you like kids, why not ask around and see if anyone in your area is looking for a babysitter. If you like mowing, why not mow your neighbor’s lawn? These kind of jobs are not glamorous, but they can teach you so much about managing your finances. A great skill worth having. “The habit of saving is itself an education; it fosters every virtue, teaches self-denial, cultivates the sense of order, trains to forethought, and so broadens the mind.”— T.T. Munger

  • Volunteer

Do you have a favorite charity? Taking time after high school to really dedicate yourself to a cause as you figure out what you want to do in life could be a wonderful thing. Of course you should carefully evaluate your options. There are plenty of wonderful organizations out there doing great things. Make sure to do your research. Pick something that you are passionate about. Are you interested in helping the poor? Are you concern about our environment? When you spend time with people that are knowledgeable about something you are passionate about, you will have a better understanding about your future. “Volunteers are seldom paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are PRICELESS”! – Unknown

  • Intern Abroad

There are many organizations that offer short-term internships in countries  around the world. Especially in countries that are in need of help. Are you all about hands-on experience? You should intern abroad. When you participate in an internship abroad organization, you will have a clearer vision about the career path you want to take. “As organizations, we have to find ways to create more opportunities, especially for our young people. A lot of corporations, they have to make opportunities for young people – create internships, for example, even if it’s only half-time”. Dolores Huerta

  • Learn a Trade

I understand that not everyone likes school. Yes, college is not for everyone. What most people fail to understand is that college is not the only place to get a higher education. If you are someone who has no interest in going to college, have you ever considered going to a trade and vocational school? You will learn a valuable trade, save money, and time. There are dozens of fields of study. Make sure to do your research and pick the school that is right for you. “ The way to learn to do things is to do things. The way to learn a trade is to work at it. Success teaches how to succeed. Begin with determination to succeed, and the work is half done already.” Henry Ford
